Cheektowaga, being Seneca Indian for "Land Of The CrabApples", was not only an area of Upstate New York but also the name of a hot indie record label. Created in 1979 under the working title "Snap Records", the label released one single 7" by Dermot Brennan from Scotland until forging the unique moniker "Cheektowaga Records". Once the name was in place, the label began amassing a roster of talent; NY painter and musician Zane Campbell, South Carolina's "Next Generation" as well as Brooklyn's Box 7.

Distribution channels in Europe had opened up and the label had made in-roads with ZYX and Tylden & Co.

The label's mainstay, Zane Campbell & Hard Facts, had been playing NYC's CBGBs and had developed a following in the East Village - home to musicians and artists alike :

"Cheektowaga Records", in 2010 still is an existent phenomena both on the web and on the airwaves - they have a Myspace presence and are now managed through Zolatone Creative Group and, in fact, have a line of indie-rock compilations for sale through Zolatone Music.
